The Enola Gay is B-29 superfortress bomber. Its name comes from its pilot, Paul Tibbets. He named it Enola gay after is mother Enola Gay Tibbets. The plane is famous for dropping the atomic bomb (aka little boy) on Hiroshima in WWII on August 6th 1945. The Enola Gay was built by Glenn L. Martin Company in its Nebraska plant. why did he name the plane after his mother?
